Crabs of Christmas Island
Infra-order Brachyura, Family Grapsidae
Yellow nipper | Geograpsus crinipes (Dana, 1851)
A carapace width of up to 60 mm makes the Yellow nipper the largest of the three nippers found on the
island. They have an overall subdued yellow to yellow/brown coloring. The eyes are greyish/pink.

On Christmas Island the crab lives in scattered numbers in rock crevices and cracks on the seaward portion of lower terraces, sea cliff and beaches from sea level to 50 metres above sea level.
